"The Health and Safety Commission’s Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and Guidance, L8, The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems states that, in order to minimise the risk of Legionellosis, employers and those with responsibilities for the control of premises should:
Identify and assess the source of risk
Prepare a scheme for controlling the risk
Implement, manage and monitor precautions
Keep records of the precautions, and
Appoint a person to be managerially responsible

"The ACOP and Guidance, L8 is endorsed by the following legislation:"

The Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, 1999
The COSHH Regulations, 1999
